Five days of training on “Child Nutrition and Child Rights”

17-21 April, 2022

5 days of training on “Child Nutrition and Child Rights” was organized by Jagriti Child and Youth Concern Nepal (Jcycn) with the support of KANALLAN in Pokhara from 17-21 April, 2022. The training aimed to increase and strengthen the knowledge, skills, and capacity of participants on child nutrition, child rights, and the importance of nutritious food found locally and to mobilize participants in the project areas to raise awareness on child nutrition.

Mr. Tiltottam Paudel, president of Jcycn initiated the program with a welcome and introduction speech. Following that, Mr. Deepak Sharma, the General Secretary of Jcycn, gave a brief summary of the training’s objectives and the topics to be covered during the training. He also provided presentations on child rights, CRC,  relevant human rights treaties, the establishment of UNO,  policy provisions including act relating to Children, and so on.

Ms. Pabitra Sapkota, the facilitator of the training, initiated the session on the concept of nutrition, its importance, and the eating habit of people. She also explained about the nutrition corner prepared in the entrance of the training hall. A detailed presentation on nutrition for the different age group, importance of nutritious food for the children, a Multi-Sector Nutrition Plan (MSNP), Nutrition Friendly Local Governance (NFLG), the steps of NFLG declaration was also provided by the facilitator.

Ms Manmaya Pangeni, Secretary of OCMCM (Office of Chief Ministry and Council of Ministers) of Gandaki province shared her experience about the nutrition status, causes of malnutrition, and our food habit. She interacted with participants and encouraged them to be a leader and dare to challenge the norms of the society. She also provided important contact numbers to contact in case of any emergencies while working in the community.

After that, Mr. Dhrub Dayal, administrative head of Bihadi RM gave presentation on 7 steps of planning, process and implementation, monitoring as well as reporting process of local government and budget making. Moreover he discussed about promotion of nutrition and prioritization in the annual planning process and achievements of the RM in the sector of nutrition.

Following that, Mr. Subash Paudel Certified NLP trainer, facilitated a motivational session for the participants. He discussed about children, their interest, rights and how parents need to behave with them. His session was very entertaining and engaging with games in between the session. He shared motivational stories related to nutrition, nutritious food and their importance.

At the end of the program, Mr. Kamal Bhusal, Chairperson of Bihadi RM thanked Jcycn team and all the participants for their coordination and active participation. He acknowledged Jcycn’s contribution to the RM since the onset of global pandemic and 2020, and said that the budget for day meal has been increased with the contribution of Jcycn. Total 32 people of different sectors of Bihadi RM have participated in the training. The training has been able to increase knowledge on nutrition, importance of nutritious food, and important of nutritious food to children.
