8 Nepali Children Rescued from High Risk of Trafficking with Joint Initiative by Jagriti Child and Youth Concern Nepal Community Development and Awareness Nepal

In a joint initiative by Jagriti Child and Youth Concern Nepal, Community Development and Awareness Nepal, eight Nepali children who were at high risk of forced labor and human trafficking have been rescued on 30 March, 2023. The children, aged between 11 to 16 years, had been in India for a long time and were brought back to Nepal.

Jagriti Child and Youth Concern Nepal and Community Development and Awareness Nepal, coordinated with Indian social organizations and the Indian police to rescue the children. The rescued children belong to Rautahat, Sarlahi, and Banke districts.

The rescued children were handed over to the the National Child Rights Council, Madhesh Province Police Office, District Police Office Rautahat. Two of the rescued children were sent to Manav Seva Ashram.

At the end of the program, Dhruv Prasad Adhikari, President of Community Development and Awareness Nepal, expressed his gratitude to all those who helped in the family reunification program and assured that the organization would continue to support the rescued children by coordinating with the local municipalities.

The program was attended by the Chief of District Police Office Rautahat Bir Bahadur Budha, Police Assistant Inspector of Provincial Children Search Coordination Center Janakpur Virendra Kumar Mandal, Representative of Jagriti Child and Youth Concern Nepal Arbin Khadka, Bal Khoj Talas Madhesh Province representative Virendra Mandal, Secretary of Community Development and representative of Awareness Nepal Anant Baniyan, journalist Ashok Sujan Shrestha, and others.

This rescue operation is significant, as there has been an increase in the number of children being trafficked from Nepal to other countries, including India, under various pretexts. The initiative taken by these organizations and agencies will hopefully set an example and encourage more actions to prevent human trafficking of children in the future.
